Obtain a certificate from a certification authority (CA)

There are commercial certification authorities such as VeriSign or Thawte that can provide a certificate that is recognized by common browsers. In large organizations, there is usually an organizational certification authority that can provide the required certificate.
  1. Open the 
    Internet Services Manager
    .
  2. Select the web site.
  3. In the menu, click 
    Bindings
    .
  4. Click 
    Add
    .
  5. In the 
    Add Site Binding
     dialog box, in the 
    Type
     list, select 
    https
    . If required, make changes to 
    IP Address and Port
     and select the SSL certificate.
  6. Click 
    OK
    .
  7. On the 
    Site Bindings
     screen, select 
    http binding
     and click 
    Remove
    .
  8. Accept the prompt and close the Site Bindings screen.
To require SSL Communication (if desired) (IIS 7 and newer), complete the following steps:
  1. Open the 
    Internet Services Manager
    .
  2. Select 
    SSL Settings
     for the Web site under consideration.
  3. Click the 
    Require SSL
     option.
  4. Click 
    Apply
    .
