Obtain a certificate from a certification authority (CA)
There are commercial certification authorities such as VeriSign or Thawte that can provide a certificate that is recognized by common browsers. In large organizations, there is usually an organizational certification authority that can provide the required certificate.
- Open theInternet Services Manager.
- Select the web site.
- In the menu, clickBindings.
- ClickAdd.
- In theAdd Site Bindingdialog box, in theTypelist, selecthttps. If required, make changes toIP Address and Portand select the SSL certificate.
- ClickOK.
- On theSite Bindingsscreen, selecthttp bindingand clickRemove.
- Accept the prompt and close theSite Bindingsscreen.
(IIS 7 and newer) Optionally, to require SSL Communication, complete the following steps:
- Open theInternet Services Manager.
- SelectSSL Settingsfor the web site under consideration.
- ClickRequire SSL.
- ClickApply.
