See which apps access your personal info

If an app uses a device feature or accesses a specific type of personal info, you can view details about that event. Tracked events are separated into two different types: foreground events (when features and info are accessed by an app that you're using), and background events (when features and info are accessed by an app you're not using, but is running in the background). The
DTEK by BlackBerry
app only displays events within 14 days.
  1. On the main screen, tap
    Applications
    .
  2. Tap an app.
  3. Tap a tracked permission.
  4. To view more information, do any of the following:
    • To filter your event view by background events, foreground events, or both, tap The filter icon.
    • On the timeline, pinch to zoom in or out.
    • To move between events, tap the Previous Item icon or the Next Item icon.
To see a list of apps that have requested a specific permission, from the main screen, tap
Applications
. Tap The filter icon, and then tap a permission.

Event details

The
DTEK by BlackBerry
app displays the following details about each event:
Device feature or type of personal info
Details
App install
  • Total number of apps installed or updated
  • Names of apps installed or updated
  • Date and time
  • Location of device when apps were installed
Camera
  • Total number of pictures or videos taken
  • Total number of times the app accessed the camera viewfinder
  • Date and time
  • Location of device when a picture or video was taken
  • Duration of event
Contacts
A third-party app can access multiple pieces of contact info during one access event.
DTEK
groups and displays the multiple access points within each access event.
  • Total number of times the app accessed your contact info
  • Total number of times the app accessed your contact info during a specific access event
  • Action taken by app (read, created, deleted, or changed a contact)
  • Date and time
Calendar
  • Total number of times the app accessed your calendar
  • Total number of calendar events the app updated
  • Date and time
  • Duration of event
  • Location of device when calendar was accessed
Location
A third-party app can access your location coordinates multiple times during one access event.
DTEK
groups and displays the multiple access points within each access event.
  • Total number of times the app accessed your location
  • Total number of times the app received your location coordinates during a specific access event
  • Date and time
  • Duration of event
  • Location coordinates sent to third-party app
Microphone
  • Date and time
  • Total number of times the microphone recorded sound
  • Duration of event
  • Location of device when microphone was used
Phone
  • Total number of times the app accessed your phone
  • Total number of calls the app made
  • Total number of times the app accessed your voicemail
  • Total number of times the app accessed your call logs
  • Date and time
  • Duration of event
  • Location of device when phone was accessed
SMS
  • Date and time
  • Total number of SMS messages sent
  • Total number of MMS messages sent
  • Name and phone number of the contact that received a text message
