Permanently delete files from the file server

In on-premises environments, files that users delete in the Workspaces UI and files that are removed by policies remain on the file server until the File Retention job runs. This allows you to recover files that were accidentally deleted. In on-premises environments, the retention job is disabled by default (storage.maxItemsForRetentionTask=0). In BlackBerry Workspaces Cloud the storage.maxItemsForRetentionTask setting is enabled by default for General data protection regulation (GDPR) compliance. For assistance with verifying and setting the File Retention job, contact your BlackBerry Professional representative.
Verify that you have configured file retention settings (step 5) in the file policy for your on-premises environment.
  1. Verify that the File Retention Job is listed in the configuration file. Do the following:
    1. Connect to the Orchestration Server using SSH.
    2. In a text editor, open srv/salt/custom/pillar/custom.yaml.
    3. Search for the following parameter, if the parameter is not present, add it: storage.maxItemsForRetentionTask: 1000
The configured value specifies the number of files removed from the system's hard drive each day. Do not exceed 2000, or the File Retention Job might not run as expected.
    4. Save the changes.
  2. From the Orchestration Server, run the Application Saltstack State to apply the changes and restart the Application service. Type salt -G roles:application state.sls application.
