Supporting declarative device management

In recent years, Apple has introduced declarative device management (DDM) as a new data path to manage the state, configuration, and status reporting of managed iOS and macOS devices.

BlackBerry UEM is gradually expanding support for DDM over the course of releases as Apple shifts more functionality towards DDM. Currently, UEM supports the use of DDM for the following purposes:

  • Device check-in: Managed devices use DDM to periodically check with UEM to determine if there are new settings or configurations to send to devices.
  • Device status reports: Managed devices use DDM to periodically report current device status to UEM.
  • Delivery of software update configurations: When you assign device SR requirements profiles and software update enforcement profiles to managed devices, the profiles are sent and applied to managed devices using DDM.
  • Custom DDM payload: When you assign a custom DDM payload profile to managed devices, the profile is sent and applied to managed devices using DDM.
