Add an app shortcut for iOS, macOS, and Android devices

You can use BlackBerry UEM to add an app shortcut to display on iOS, macOS, or Android devices. Device users can use the shortcut to quickly access a web address that you define. For Android devices, you can configure the app shortcut to open another app on the device instead of a URL. For devices activated with BlackBerry Dynamics, you can add the app shortcut to the BlackBerry Dynamics Launcher.
Prepare an image that you want to use for the app shortcut icon on devices. The image should be in .png, .jpg, or .jpeg format.
  1. In the management console, on the menu bar, click Apps.
  2. Click Add an app icon..
  3. Click App shortcut.
  4. Type a name and description for the app shortcut.
    The name is used as the label for the app shortcut.
  5. Click Browse. Navigate to and select the icon image that you want to use for the shortcut.
  6. Select the applicable device types.
  7. Complete the following steps for the applicable device types:

    Device type

    iOS

    1. In the URL field, type the URL that you want the app shortcut to link to. The web address must begin with http:// or https://.
    2. Next to the Target app field, click Select. Search for and select the app that you want to use to open the URL.
    3. If you want to add the app shortcut to the device home screen, select the User's home screen check box.
      • If you want to allow device users to remove the app shortcut, select the Allow user to remove app shortcut check box.
      • If you want to open the URL in full screen instead of in a browser window, select the Open as a full screen app check box.
    4. If you want to add the app shortcut to the BlackBerry Dynamics Launcher, select the BlackBerry Dynamics Launcher check box. If you want to force the URL to open in BlackBerry Access, select the Open in BlackBerry Access check box.

    macOS

    1. In the URL field, type the URL that you want the app shortcut to link to. The web address must begin with http:// or https://.
    2. Select the Put on Dock check box.
    3. If you want to allow device users to remove the app shortcut, select the Allow user to remove app shortcut check box.
    4. If you want to open the URL in full screen instead of in a browser window, select the Open as a full screen app check box. If you don't want the browser UI to appear when the user navigates away from the web clip, select the Ignore manifest scope check box.

    Android

    1. Do one of the following:
      • If you want the app shortcut to open a URL, select Use app shortcut. In the URL field, type the URL that you want the app shortcut to link to. The web address must begin with http:// or https://.
      • If you want the app shortcut to open another app on the device, select Use app package ID. Click Select and search for and select the app.

    The app shortcut is added to the workspace on the device and to the BlackBerry Dynamics Launcher (if BlackBerry Dynamics is enabled).

  8. Click Add.
Assign the app shortcut to users and groups.
