Managing software updates on devices

BlackBerry UEM allows you to control how software updates are installed on iOS, macOS, and Android (Android Enterprise, Android Management, and Samsung Knox) devices.
  1. Click Policies and profiles > Managed devices > Compliance > Device SR requirements and click The Add icon..

  2. Add a profile name and description.

  3. Select the device types that you want the profile to apply to.

  4. For iOS devices:
    • If you want to display update notifications on users' devices, select Show software update notifications.
    • In the Recommended software update cadence drop-down list, choose which OS updates to show to users (All, Newest, or Oldest).
    • If you want to defer software updates for a set number of days, select Enable update deferrals and specify the deferral period.
    • If you want to turn on automatic OS updates, select Enable automatic update actions and configure the settings as desired.
    • Enable and configure the background security improvement settings and beta program enrollment settings as desired.

  5. For macOS devices:
    • If you want to allow standard user accounts (not just administrator accounts) to install OS updates, select Allow standard user OS updates.
    • If you want to display update notifications on users' devices, select Show software update notifications.
    • If you want to defer software updates for a set number of days, select Enable update deferrals and specify the deferral period.
    • If you want to turn on automatic OS updates, select Enable automatic update actions and configure the settings as desired.
    • Enable and configure the background security improvement settings and beta program enrollment settings as desired.

  6. For Android devices:
    • To define update rules for specific devices and operating systems, in the OS update rule section, add and configure one or more rules.
    • To define suspension periods where OS updates will not occur, in the Suspend OS updates section, add and configure one or more suspension periods.
    • To control how Google Play applies updates to apps running in the foreground, in the App auto update policy drop-down list, choose the appropriate option (Always, Wi-Fi only, User can allow, Disable).

  7. Click Save.
    Assign the profile to users and groups.

  8. That's it!
