Deprecation of Ionic integration

Ionic has discontinued active development of its Cordova integration and will focus on Capacitor going forward. As a result, using Ionic with the BlackBerry Dynamics SDK for Cordova (ionic cordova workflow) is deprecated in this release and will be removed in a future release of the BlackBerry Dynamics SDK.

BlackBerry recommends migrating your BlackBerry Dynamics apps that use Ionic to Capacitor. The Capacitor plug-in (capacitor-plugin-bbd-base) supports Ionic 7 and 8 with Capacitor 7 and 8, and includes framework support for Angular, React, and Vue.

This release removes support for Ionic 6, Capacitor 6, and Ionic 1 project types. For BlackBerry Dynamics apps that continue to use Ionic without migrating to Capacitor, the SDK will support Ionic projects with the Angular type only; Ionic projects with React or Vue types are not supported. Capacitor projects support Angular, React, and Vue through capacitor-plugin-bbd-base.

All of the BlackBerry Dynamics SDK for Cordova plug-ins are fully compatible with Capacitor and can be installed along with capacitor-plugin-bbd-base using npm.

For a working example of a BlackBerry Dynamics app using Capacitor, see the Secure-ICC-Ionic-Capacitor-Angular sample app that is included in the SDK package.

Integrate the BlackBerry Dynamics SDK for iOS using Swift Package Manager

If you are using cordova-ios version 8.0.0 or later, you have the option to configure the Base plug-in to integrate the BlackBerry Dynamics SDK for iOS using Swift Package Manager instead of CocoaPods.

For more information, see Install the BlackBerry Dynamics SDK for Cordova.

Supported versions of the core BlackBerry Dynamics SDK

  • BlackBerry Dynamics SDK for Android version 15.0.x, 14.1.x, 13.2.x
  • BlackBerry Dynamics SDK for iOS version 15.0.x, 14.0.x, 13.1.x

Known issues

cordova-plugin-ionic-webview will no longer be maintained, and is not fully compatible with cordova-ios 8.x and later. If used with the BlackBerry Dynamics SDK for Cordova version 15.x or later, BlackBerry Dynamics MailTo functionality will not work as expected. This issue does not impact older versions of cordova-ios. If you are using cordova-ios 8.x or later, you can remove cordova-plugin-ionic-webview from your project, as WKWebView support is already provided by the Base plug-in.

You cannot enable inline media playback when using cordova-plugin-bbd-inappbrowser. (GD-65405)

Workaround: Modify the code of codova-plugin-bbd-inappbrowser to switch the video to use inline mode.

When an asynchronous HTTP request is sent from an iOS app, a response with CORS error may occur due to CORS server configurations and strict security policies of WkWebview integrated to cordova-ios. (GD-58418)

Workaround: Use the cordova-plugin-bbd-httprequest plug-in.
