The BlackBerry AtHoc Desktop App sends a payload that is larger than necessary when performing check-update (CU) requests. The payload includes several XML nodes (such as ENGINE, SKIN, TREE, CLIENT, STYLESHEET, and ACTIONS sections) that are no longer used by the application. These obsolete nodes, originally associated with legacy features such as the Deskbar and Toolbar that have since been removed from the product, are still included in every update-check request, resulting in unnecessarily high and repeated network traffic from desktop agents. Organizations with a large number of deployed desktop agents may observe significant recurring network traffic attributable to BlackBerry AtHoc Desktop App update-check activity. This may be flagged by network monitoring tools or raise concern among IT and security teams.
