Controlling BlackBerry devices and the BlackBerry Desktop Software using IT policies

You can use IT policies to control the behavior of BlackBerry® devices and the BlackBerry® Desktop Software. When you associate a new BlackBerry device user with the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server in a BlackBerry Domain, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server automatically sends to the BlackBerry device the IT policy that you assigned to the BlackBerry® Pushcast™ Software user account or group. By default, if you do not assign an IT policy to the user account or group, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server sends the default IT policy. If you delete an IT policy that you assigned to the user account or group, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server automatically re-assigns the default IT policy to the user account and resends the default IT policy to the BlackBerry device.

You can assign the following IT policies to BlackBerry Pushcast Software user accounts:

  • Allow Launch of BlackBerry Pushcast Player IT policy rule: This rule specifies whether a device user can open the BlackBerry Pushcast Player on a device.
  • Allow BlackBerry Pushcast Player Roaming IT policy rule: This rule specifies whether the BlackBerry Pushcast Player on a device can download content from the BlackBerry Pushcast Software when the device is roaming.
  • Restrict BlackBerry Pushcast Player to Wi-Fi IT policy rule: This rule specifies whether the BlackBerry Pushcast Player on a device can download content from the BlackBerry Pushcast Software when the device is not connected to a Wi-Fi® network.
  • BlackBerry Pushcast Player Mobile Network Data Limit IT policy rule: This rule specifies the data limit (in MB) that the BlackBerry Pushcast Player can use to download content from the BlackBerry Pushcast Software over the wireless network in a one-month period.
  • BlackBerry Pushcast Player Default Connection Type IT policy rule: This rule specifies the default connection type that the BlackBerry Pushcast Player should use to connect to the BlackBerry Pushcast Software.
  • Allow BlackBerry Pushcast Player Auto Update Prompt IT policy rule: This rule specifies whether the BlackBerry Pushcast Player on a device should prompt the device user automatically when a new version of the BlackBerry Pushcast Player is available.
  • BlackBerry Pushcast Player Host URL IT policy rule: This rule specifies the URL of the server (for example, https://server01.rim.com) that hosts the BlackBerry Pushcast Software. The BlackBerry Pushcast Player uses the FQDN to connect to the BlackBerry Pushcast Software.
  • BlackBerry Pushcast Player Servers List IT policy rule: This rule specifies whether a web server is trusted and can communicate with the BlackBerry Pushcast Player.
