Security features for BlackBerry Pushcast Software installations

You can implement security features to protect information in hosted installations and when you install the BlackBerry® Pushcast™ Software in your organization's environment.

Feature

Description

Wireless data encryption

When the network connection type is BlackBerry MDS Connection Service, the BlackBerry® Enterprise Solution encrypts all communication that occurs between BlackBerry devices and the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service using AES or Triple DES encryption.

SSL

SSL protects the following communications:
  • All data transmissions that occur between the BlackBerry Pushcast Software and BlackBerry Enterprise Server
  • All content and web services messages that send between the BlackBerry Pushcast Software and the BlackBerry Pushcast Player or BlackBerry® Pushcast™ Desktop Player
  • The connection between BlackBerry Pushcast Software users' computers and the BlackBerry® Pushcast™ Desktop Player
  • The connection between the BlackBerry® Pushcast™ Plug-in for Microsoft PowerPoint and the BlackBerry Pushcast Software
  • The connection between BlackBerry Pushcast Software users' computers and the BlackBerry Pushcast Console

Internet access

The BlackBerry MDS Connection Service does not need to provide devices with outbound access to the Internet when you install the BlackBerry Pushcast Software in your organization's environment because the BlackBerry Pushcast Player connects to the server that you installed the BlackBerry Pushcast Software on.

If your organization uses a hosted installation, the BlackBerry Pushcast Player and the BlackBerry Pushcast Software communicate over the Internet.

You can send data to a hosted installation through the BlackBerry Enterprise Server by permitting outbound access for the BlackBerry Pushcast Software through the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service.

BlackBerry Pushcast Software access

BlackBerry device users that are associated with the BlackBerry Enterprise Server can access the BlackBerry Pushcast Software when you install the BlackBerry Pushcast Software in your organization's environment.

Devices require a connection to your internal network when you install the BlackBerry Pushcast Software in your organization's environment. You can establish a connection between devices and your internal network by activating the devices on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and using the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service for the users in your organization. This provides a highly secure tunnel from the BlackBerry device to the organization's environment.

Encryption of sensitive information

The BlackBerry Pushcast Software encrypts sensitive information such as user names and passwords, email addresses, and device PINs using Triple DES encryption and a shared key with the BlackBerry Pushcast Player.

RSA® digital signatures

The BlackBerry Pushcast Software uses RSA digital signatures to authenticate all web services messages that it receives from devices. The BlackBerry Pushcast Software responds only to web services messages that are received from registered users.
