The BlackBerry® Device Software includes several message applications: email, SMS (text), and MMS (media). You can configure these applications to send received messages to one inbox, three separate inboxes, or any combination in between. The BlackBerry user can set the inbox configuration and override your configuration. However, by default, the theme controls this setting.

The inbox configuration affects the design of the Home screen; for example, if you plan to add separate icons for email messages, SMS messages and MMS messages, messages must be sent to separate inboxes. If an icon is added for an inbox that does not exist, the icon does not appear on the Home screen. However, the theme reader on the BlackBerry device does not shift the remaining icons are up to occupy the space; instead, it leaves the slot empty.
