Best practice: Creating content for the Chalk Pushcast Player

Best practice

Description

page size

  • Use the default Microsoft® PowerPoint® page size. The Chalk™ Pushcast™ Software adjusts the size of the content when you send it to BlackBerry® devices.

font

  • Use at least 29-point font for full-screen display.
  • Use sans-serif fonts, such as Arial, Verdana, or Calibri, because they are easier to read.
  • Use different font colors to emphasize words. Avoid bold text because it does not appear bold when the Chalk Pushcast Plug-in for Microsoft PowerPoint converts the content.
  • Reduce your screen size to 25% to view how the screen appears in the Chalk Pushcast Player.

headers and footers

  • Avoid headers and footers where possible. The Chalk Pushcast Plug-in for Microsoft PowerPoint publishes all headers and footers automatically. You should only include headers and footers if you want Chalk Pushcast Player users and Chalk Pushcast Desktop Player users to view them.
  • Avoid large headers and footers because they reduce the space that is available for other information. If you must use a header, combine the header with the slide title.

text boxes

  • Extend text boxes to cover as much of the screen as possible.
  • Avoid centering small sections of text that create large left margins and right margins.

content

  • Write about only one topic on each slide.
  • Write concisely.
  • Insert a line break between text items.
  • When you include audio on a slide, write text that outlines the ideas in the audio. Do not repeat the audio.

spaces

  • Avoid blank spaces or placeholders on the slides. The Chalk Pushcast Plug-in for Microsoft PowerPoint publishes the entire Microsoft PowerPoint slide so that all blank spaces or placeholders appear in the published content.

hidden slides

  • Do not hide slides. When you hide a slide in Microsoft PowerPoint, the slide appears in the content when you publish it.

pictures

  • Use large pictures.
  • Use bright colors where possible.
  • Use cropping tools in Microsoft PowerPoint to focus on the subject matter.

audio and video

  • Use audio formats and video formats that the Chalk Pushcast Plug-in for Microsoft PowerPoint supports.
  • Use text to inform the user to watch a video and to click the video icon when a video is on a slide.
  • Include only one audio file and one video file per slide.
  • Include audio files that are no more than 4 MB.
  • Include video files that are no more than 100 MB.
