Safeguards for user-generated content

User-generated content is content available in your product that is created by or provided by a user. Examples of user-generated content include media uploads (music, videos, images, and so on), and user comments. You must have safeguards in place to protect users, especially children and minors, from user-generated content that is considered harmful or inappropriate.

The User-Generated Safeguards form is required for any product releases that contain user-generated content.

When you add a release for a product that includes user-generated content, you must complete the User-Generated Safeguards form to confirm that you have established safeguards to protect users from inappropriate content, conduct, or activity, including pornography, harassment, unwelcome contact, or fraud.

If you specify that the product does not include user-generated content, you do not need to complete and submit the User-Generated Safeguards form.

Examples of user-generated safeguards include the following:
  • Users must read and accept a code of conduct or a terms of service agreement before using your product.
  • You proactively monitor user-generated content and remove inappropriate content from your product.
  • You have a process for receiving and handling reports or complaints about inappropriate content from users.
  • When you identify a potentially malicious user, you have disciplinary actions in place, including termination or suspension of the user’s access to your product.
