Best practices for logos and other images

You can upload a vendor logo when you set up your member account.

When you add a product to BlackBerry App World you must upload an icon for the product, and a feature image. These two images are the same for all product platforms. When you choose to upload screen shot images, you can use the same image for all platforms, or you can upload images specifically for each supported platform.

Best practices

Create a vendor logo

You can upload a vendor logo that displays with your vendor information on BlackBerry App World.

Create your logo as a .png file with the following dimensions:
  • Square image: 480 x 480 pixels
  • Non-square image: height of 480 pixels, width between 480 pixels and 1440 pixels

Create an icon

When you add a product to BlackBerry App World, you must upload an icon for the product. The icon is displayed with your product in BlackBerry App World. When you create the icon, consider the following best practices:
  • Create a .png file that is exactly 480 x 480 pixels.
  • Create a distinctive and attractive icon that identifies your brand and is easily recognizable.
  • Create an icon that is visually similar to the icon that you provided in the .cod or .bar files to display on the device.
  • Avoid using a screen shot of the product as an icon.
  • Do not use profanity or other offensive material in the icon.

Create a featured image

When you add a product to BlackBerry App World, you must upload a featured image that displays on the Featured Items screen in BlackBerry App World. When you create the featured image, consider the following best practices:
  • Create a .png file that is exactly 1920 x 1186 pixels.
  • Create a distinctive and attractive image that depicts your product.
  • Avoid dense text that could be unreadable in smaller sizes. BlackBerry App World scales the image for a variety of different screen sizes.
  • Do not use profanity or other offensive material in the image.

Create screen shots

When you add a product to BlackBerry App World, you can upload up to 50 screenshots of the product for each platform. The screenshots display in the product details screen of BlackBerry App World. When you create the screenshots, consider the following best practices:

  • Capture screens that demonstrate key features or functionality.
  • Avoid displaying the region outside of the screen if you create screen shots using the BlackBerry Smartphone Simulator.
  • Avoid creating screen shots that display multiple screens.
  • Do not use profanity or other offensive material or images in screen shots.
  • Screen shots that are uploaded for specific platforms override any screen shots uploaded in the Default tab. Therefore if you upload one or more screen shots for a BlackBerry 10 smartphone, no screen shots uploaded in the Default tab will be displayed for the BlackBerry 10 smartphone.
  • For default screen shots, create .gif files, .jpg files, or .png files that are no larger than 1280 x 1280 pixels.
  • To upload screen shots specifically for BlackBerry smartphones, create .gif files, .jpg files, or .png files that are no larger than 1280 x 1280 pixels.
  • To upload screen shots specifically for a BlackBerry 10 smartphone, create .gif files, .jpg files, or .png files that meet the criteria for either of two aspect ratios. For an aspect ratio of 16:9, images can have a landscape or portrait orientation. They must be a minimum of 1280 x 720 pixels, a maximum of 2560 x 1440 pixels. For an aspect ratio of 1:1, a minimum size of 720 x 720 pixels, a maximum size of 1440 x 1440 pixels is required.
  • To upload screen shots specifically for a BlackBerry PlayBook, create .gif files, .jpg files, or .png files that are sized at either 1024 x 600 (landscape) pixels, or 600 x 1024 (portrait) pixels.
