Create or edit sticky notes

Sticky notes are used to add comments to a PDF document in Adobe Reader. To create a sticky note:

  1. Tap The More icon.
  2. Tap The Annotation Bar icon.
  3. Tap The Comment icon.
  4. Tap an area of the screen, and start typing to add comments.
  5. Tap Save.
After you finish:

To view or edit an existing sticky note, tap the sticky note.

Create freehand or free text annotations

Use freehand or free text annotations to mark up PDF documents as you would using a pen or pencil. Freehand annotations allow you to circle a block of text, draw an asterisk next to an important paragraph in a document, or create any shape you like. Free text annotations allow you to add comments directly to PDF documents. To edit a PDF document using a freehand or a free text annotation:

  1. Tap The More icon.
  2. Tap The Annotation Bar icon.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • To create a freehand annotation, tap The Freehand icon.
    • To create a free text annotation, tap The Free Text icon.
  4. Tap Save.
After you finish:
Tip: After you create a freehand or free text annotation, you can edit the color, opacity, and thickness of the annotation. You can also move or resize it. To start making changes, tap the annotation.

Highlight text in a PDF document

  1. Touch and hold an area of text, then move the cursor indicators to select the text you want to highlight.
  2. Tap an area within the cursor indicators.
  3. Tap The Highlight icon.
After you finish:
Tip: To strikeout or underline an area of text, tap The Strikeout icon or tap The Underline icon.

Create a signature for a PDF document

The signature feature allows you to add an electronic signature to PDF documents, for example, a contract or legal file. Before you add an electronic signature to a PDF document, you must create one. To create an electronic signature, or to edit your existing electronic signature:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen.
  2. Tap The Settings icon.
  3. Tap Edit Signature.

Add a signature to a PDF document

Once you create a signature, you can add it to a PDF document. If you try to add a signature to a PDF document, but you don't have one created, you are prompted to create one. To add a signature to a PDF document:

  1. Touch and hold an area on the screen.
  2. Tap The Signature icon.
After you finish:
Tip: After you close a document, your signature becomes permanent and can't be edited by anyone who opens the PDF document.

Search a PDF document

  1. Tap The Find icon.
  2. Type a word or phrase > Enter.
  3. Tap The Next icon to go to the next instance of the word or phrase in the document.
  4. To exit, tap Done.
