Backing up and restoring device data

BlackBerry recommends that you regularly create a backup file of your BlackBerry device data, especially before you update your device software. Maintaining a current backup file might allow you to recover your device data if your device is lost, stolen, or corrupted by an unforeseen issue.

On devices that run BlackBerry Device Software 5.0 to BlackBerry 7.1, BlackBerry Protect provides a convenient way to wirelessly back up and restore device data.

On devices that run BlackBerry 10, you can't use BlackBerry Protect to back up and restore your data. You can use BlackBerry Link instead. To download BlackBerry Link, on your computer, visit and select the Windows or Mac option.

If your device is associated with an Enterprise Mobility Management solution from BlackBerry, for information about the backup and restore options that your organization allows, contact your administrator.
