I can't connect to a public hotspot

Okay, so you are trying to connect to a public hotspot. There are a few common issues that we can check and, hopefully, get you connected!

Tip: When you troubleshoot connection issues with a public hotspot, you might need to consult with an employee at that hotspot or search for posted information to get any information that you might require about the network settings.

Is Wi-Fi turned on?

We need to make sure that Wi-Fi technology is turned on so that your BlackBerry device can detect Wi-Fi networks.

Can you see the network you want to connect to?

Now that we have confirmed that Wi-Fi is turned on, let's confirm that your device can detect the network that you want to connect to.

+How to: Confirm whether your device can detect the network you want to connect to

If you cannot see the network in the list, it may be an issue with the signal strength. Try moving closer to the router to get a stronger signal. Sometimes, objects such as concrete walls or microwave ovens can interfere with the signal. Another reason why you might not be able to see the network is if it is a hidden network. For more information, see Is the Wi-Fi network hidden?

Is the Wi-Fi network profile enabled?

If you have confirmed that Wi-Fi is turned on and you still cannot connect to the network, the Wi-Fi network profile might be disabled (blacklisted).

+How to: Verify that the Wi-Fi network profile is enabled
