Some public hotspots use a captive portal technique to control network access. If you are trying to connect to a hotspot that uses a captive portal, when you open the browser, you should be redirected to a webpage where you will be required to do one or more of the following:
- Provide authentication information
- Pay to use the hotspot
- Agree to an acceptable use policy
When a captive portal is in use, you will not be able to browse to any other webpage before you have entered the required information. Consult posted information or talk to an employee at the hotspot to confirm what information you need to enter.
