Set up your smartphone
- If prompted, set up your BlackBerry
ID. BlackBerry
ID is a username and password that gives you access to BlackBerry apps, such as BlackBerry App World storefront. Setting up BlackBerry
ID is optional, but you might need it to use certain apps.
When you create a new BlackBerry
ID, in the Username field, enter an email address that can be accessed from a browser on a computer (for example, a Google
Mail or Yahoo!
Mail email account).
Make sure that you record your password recovery question and answer for future use.
- Open the Setup app to set up your email and other apps.

Import your contacts
You can import your contacts from a SIM card or by using the BlackBerry Desktop Software. To download BlackBerry Desktop Software, go to www.blackberry.com/desktopsoftware.
If you have a SIM card, on the home screen, click the Setup icon > SIM Contacts Sync icon.

Switch smartphones
To move data from a previous
BlackBerry smartphone, do the following:

On your computer, open
the BlackBerry
Desktop Software.
- Connect your new smartphone to your computer.
- Click Copy data and settings from another device and complete the instructions on the screen.

If necessary, on your new smartphone, click the Setup icon > Email Accounts
and complete the instructions on the screen.

Set a password

On the Home screen, click the
Setup icon > Password icon.

Select Enable > click Set Password, and follow the prompts.
To lock your smartphone, on the Home screen, click the
Password Lock icon.
Record your password for future use.

Compose and send an email

On the home screen, click the Messages icon.

Press the
key >
Compose Email.

In the
To field, type an email address or a contact
name.

Type a message.

Press the
key

Send.

Stay connected with family and

Add a BBM contact using a barcode

On the home screen, click the
BlackBerry Messenger icon.

Press the
key >
Invite to BBM >
Scan a PIN barcode.

Hold your BlackBerry smartphone so that all four corners of the contact's barcode
appear on your screen and you hear a beep.

At the top of the BBM screen, click your name.

Beside PIN Barcode, click Show.

Phone tips
- To change your ring tone, on the home screen, click the Setup icon > Ring Tones icon.
- To check your voice mail, on the home screen, press and hold the 1 key.
Certain features might not be supported by all wireless service providers. Check with your wireless service provider for details.

Browse the Internet
For more information on the charges associated with using the browser,
contact your wireless service provider.

On the home screen, click the Browser icon.

In the address bar, type a web address or search
terms.

Press the
key on the keyboard.
To stop loading a webpage, press the
key >
Stop.

Zoom in to or out from a webpage
On a webpage,
press the

key >
Zoom.
- To
zoom in, on the trackpad, slide your finger up.
- To
zoom out, on the trackpad, slide your finger down.
To turn off zoom mode, press the

key.

Open, close, or switch between tabs
With tabbed browsing, you can open multiple webpages on your BlackBerry smartphone at the same time. If you open a link in a message, calendar entry, or memo, the link automatically opens in a new tab. The more tabs you have open, the more memory your smartphone uses.

Take a picture
- To take a picture, click the
icon or press the Convenience key on the right side of the smartphone.
- To zoom in or out, slide your finger up or down on the trackpad.
You can see your pictures by clicking the Media icon > Pictures.
Certain features might not be available on all BlackBerry Curve models.

Record a video
To perform this task,
you might need to have a media card inserted in your
BlackBerry smartphone.

On the Home screen, click the
Media icon >
Video Camera
icon.

To start recording, click the
record icon.
-
To pause recording, click the
pause icon.
Note: The approximate amount of storage space available for saving videos
appears on the lower part of the screen when video recording is paused.

Use a picture as your smartphone wallpaper

On the Home screen, click the
Media icon >
Pictures
icon.

Browse to a picture.

Press the
key >
Set As Wallpaper.

Turn on, turn off, or check the status of a network connection
You should keep
network connections turned off in certain places, such as on an airplane or in
a hospital. For more information, see the
Safety and Product Information booklet for your
BlackBerry smartphone.
On the home screen, click the connections area at the top of the screen, or click the
Manage Connections icon.
- To turn on a
network connection, select the checkbox beside a connection type.
- To turn off a
network connection, clear the checkbox beside a connection type.
- To turn on the
network connections that were turned on previously, click
Restore Connections.
- To check the status of a network connection, click Service Status.

Turn on or turn off Bluetooth technology
If you try to perform an action using Bluetooth technology, you may be prompted to turn on Bluetooth technology.
On the home screen, click the connections area at the top of the screen, or click the
Manage Connections icon.
- To turn on Bluetooth technology, select the Bluetooth checkbox.
- To turn off Bluetooth technology, clear the Bluetooth checkbox.

You can use

Desktop Software to do the following:
- Sync your contacts, music, pictures, and more
- Back up and restore
smartphone
data
- Update your software

BlackBerry Desktop Software, go to
www.blackberry.com/desktopsoftware.

Sync your media files

Connect your
BlackBerry smartphone to your
computer.

On your computer, open the
BlackBerry
Desktop Software.
- If you're using
a
Windows computer, click
Music, Pictures, or
Videos.
- If you're using
a
Mac computer, in the
Media section in the left pane, click
Music.
