The new features and enhancements for BlackBerry Messenger 6.2 include the following items:
|Language enhancements|| |
If your BlackBerry smartphone language is set to Chinese, you might be able to use the handwriting feature in BBM. (Requires BlackBerry Device Software 7.1 or later)
BBM now supports Finnish.
Animated display pictures
More animated display pictures are now built into BBM. Change your picture to suit your mood.
Change your name or message inline
You can quickly change your name or status message without leaving your contact list by clicking the text at the top of the screen. To exit inline editing, just scroll down.
You can still access your profile screen by clicking your display picture.
Streamlined voice notes
When your convenience key is set to open BBM, if you highlight a contact in BBM and press the convenience key, you can start recording a voice note. Once you're done, pressing the convenience key again will send the voice note.
You can set your convenience key to BBM from your smartphone Options > Device > Convenience Key.
BlackBerry Tag enhancements
Adding contacts has never been easier. If your BlackBerry smartphone supports NFC technology, you can turn on the Allow Automatic Invitations by Tapping option. Then, as long as you or someone else has BBM open, you can add each other as contacts by aligning the backs of your smartphones.
This feature requires that you both have the latest version of BBM installed on smartphones that support NFC technology.
Resend a message
If a message didn't send (for example, if your smartphone was outside of a wireless coverage area), you can highlight the message and select Resend from the menu.
When typing the name of a contact or group, the search ignores special characters and emoticons to make it easier to find what you're looking for.
- At least 5.0 MB of available application storage
- BlackBerry Device Software 5.0 or later
- A wireless service data plan
Depending on your wireless service provider or organization, you might not be able to use BlackBerry Messenger.
This section lists fixed issues for BBM 6.2.
If you selected part of your display name or personal message, you might not have been able to use the cut, copy, and paste buttons at the bottom of the screen.
If you pressed the Shift key and SYM, the chat field might have cleared unexpectedly.
If you add two emoticons into the chat field and removed the space between them, the first emoticon might have appeared as text instead.
If you typed an emoticon into the comment field while sending a file, the emoticon displayed as text instead.
If your smartphone was set to use font size 14, you might have seen an empty, vertical dialogue box when trying to send a picture to a contact.
In some cases, if your smartphone was set to use a large font size (such as font size 14), you might not have been able to scroll down in a file transfer dialogue to send a file to a contact.
If you changed your display picture by using the Set as BBM Display Picture menu item from the Camera or Pictures app, your display picture might not be updated in all areas of a group.
This section lists known issues for BBM 6.2.
If you click your display name at the top of your contact list and add an emoticon to the beginning of your name, you might not be able to scroll down to the Personal Message field.
Workaround: You can open your profile to edit your personal message.
If you're using BlackBerry 7.1 and turn child protection on, when you turn child protection off, display pictures in BBM stop animating.
Workaround: Restart your smartphone to see your animated display pictures again.
If you’re using BlackBerry 7.0 and your smartphone supports NFC technology, in BBM you might not have the option to add a contact by tapping and NFC options might not display.
If you answer an invitation question incorrectly, the invitation remains in your Pending contacts list even though you cannot change your answer.
Workaround: You can manually delete the invitation and ask the person to invite you again.
You might not be able to delete a contact while a multiperson chat with that contact is open.
Workaround: Leave the multiperson chat and try deleting the contact again.
If you set the Show Recent Updates option to None, recent updates might still display.
Emoticons, including flags, that are in a contact or group member's display name might not appear correctly outside of chats and group chats.
If the display language on your BlackBerry smartphone is set to Arabic or Hebrew, brackets around text might not display correctly.
In a chat on a smartphone with BlackBerry Device Software 5.0 or 6.0, if you press the Delete key after releasing the Shift key, the chat field might clear unexpectedly.
If you’re using BlackBerry Device Software 6.0 and you receive a voice note in BBM, the voice note playback might be choppy and the length of the recording might not match what the sender recorded.
When recording a voice note in a multiperson chat, the recording limit is 35 seconds instead of 60 seconds.
After setting BBM to save your chat history, when you open a chat, the messages might scroll up suddenly.
If you turn off automatic voicenote recording and then click the Reply button for a voice note, it might still automatically start recording.
You might not be able to use the trackpad on your smartphone to click a website address.
Workaround: You can click the Get Link item from the menu or click the link using the touchscreen.
If you send a map location with a customize zoom and position, the contact might receive the original map instead.
If you forward a text message as a BBM message, you might not receive confirmation that the message has been sent.
If you forward a picture that you received to a contact over Bluetooth device, the recipient might receive a .tmp file rather than a .jpg. The recipient cannot view the picture.
Workaround: You can try saving the picture to your smartphone or to a media card before forwarding it.
You cannot send files to contacts in a multiperson chat.
Workaround: You can send files to contacts individually or you can share pictures within a group.
After restarting your smartphone, the icon for new group notifications might no longer appear in the Today view on the Home screen.
The View Availability button doesn't appear while you are creating a calendar event.
If you set your smartphone font size to 14, you might not be able to see the appointment name or calendar icon when sending the appointment to a BBM contact.
Workaround: Reduce the font size to 10 or smaller.
If the display language on your smartphone is set to Thai, accents in the Group Updates section might overlap each other.
You might not be able to post a comment on a picture if your comment is long and includes special characters, such as symbols and emoticons.
If a group member shares a picture after the picture limit for the group has been reached, the new picture replaces an older one but the picture counter might incorrectly update to one more than the group limit.
If you set the group option to save pictures that members share to a media card, and if you share a picture from the Camera application, an extra copy of the picture might appear on your media card.
Workaround: You can share pictures from the Pictures section of a group.
If you click View Calendar from a group update, the calendar incorrectly displays today’s date.
If you register an email address that uses a BlackBerry Enterprise Server with BBM, wipe your smartphone, add new contacts or groups, and register the email address with BBM again, your previous groups might not be recovered.
Workaround: You can try asking a person from the group to remove you from the group and re-invite you.
