About the smartphone password
There are several types of password protection that you can use on your BlackBerry smartphone.
You can create a smartphone password to help protect your smartphone from unauthorized access and use, and you can set your smartphone to lock after a certain period of inactivity. You must enter your smartphone password to unlock your smartphone. If you forget your password, it can't be recovered. For security reasons, if you exceed the number of allowed password attempts, your smartphone deletes all your smartphone data and prompts you to set a new password.
After you create a BlackBerry ID, you can use a single email address and password to log in to any BlackBerry product or service that supports BlackBerry ID. If you exceed the number of allowed attempts to log in using BlackBerry ID, wait for the security lockout to end before you try to log in again. To reset your BlackBerry ID password, visit www.blackberry.com/blackberryid.
You can use the Password Kepper () to store password information, such as your passwords for online banking. The Password Keeper is designed to encrypt your password information, and decrypt it when you enter the Password Keeper password. Rember that you might also need your smartphone password before you access the Password Keeper. If you exceed the number of allowed attempts to open the Password Keeper, the Password Keeper data can't be accessed unless you restore your smartphone data. After you restore your smartphone data, when you attempt to open Password Keeper you are prompted to create a Password Keeper password. Then, you are prompted to enter the old Password Keeper password to access old password information.
Restoring your data
Research In Motion recommends that you regularly create and save a backup file on your computer, especially before you update any software. Maintaining a current backup file on your computer might allow you to recover smartphone data if your smartphone is lost, stolen, or corrupted by an unforeseen issue.
