The <ul> element specifies an unordered, or bulleted, list. One or more <li> elements enclosed in a <ul> element appear with a bullet.

Differences between HTML, XHTML, and XHTML-MP

The compact and type attributes were deprecated in HTML 4.01. XHTML (strict) and XHTML-MP do not support these attributes.
