Configure a PBX for BlackBerry MVS

Verify that you have the documentation for your organization's PBX available.
  1. Prepare the DS1 card for T1/E1 ISDN-PRI. For more information, see the documentation for your organization's PBX.
  2. Insert the DS1 card into the PBX cabinet.
  3. Configure the DS1 card for T1/E1 ISDN-PRI with QSIG.
  4. Configure the D-channel of the T1/E1 IDSN-PRI for QSIG. If you use multiple spans, configure the D-channel for each span.
  5. Create a T1/E1 ISDN-PRI tie trunk group for two-way communication.
  6. Assign the B-channels of the T1/E1 ISDN-PRI to the tie trunk group. If you use multiple spans, assign the B-channels for each span.
  7. Program a route on your organization's PBX so that the PBX can route incoming calls to the tie trunk group. You can configure alternate routes as failover routes.
  8. If necessary, program your organization's PBX to change telephone numbers of incoming calls (for example, removing or adding digits).
  9. Configure the dial plan for your organization's PBX so incoming calls to the BlackBerry® Mobile Voice System users' PBX extensions are routed to the media gateway through the tie trunk group.
  10. Program a route on your organization's PBX so that the PBX can route outgoing calls from the tie trunk group to the BlackBerry MVS users' PBX extensions.
  11. Program your organization's PBX so that the tie trunk group has appropriate permissions to make outgoing calls to external phone numbers over the PSTN.
  12. Identify and create the DID numbers that BlackBerry MVS requires. Record the DID numbers for future use.
  13. Program your organization's PBX to display caller IDs of the BlackBerry MVS users for calls within your organization's phone system (internal and network), and external calls (local, long distance, and international). For more information, see the documentation for your organization's PBX.
  • To configure the media gateway, see the configuration note for your organization's media gateway.
  • To install the BlackBerry MVS software, see the BlackBerry Mobile Voice System Installation and Configuration Guide.
