Upgrade implications for the BlackBerry Configuration Database

When you upgrade to the latest BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version, you must upgrade to the latest BlackBerry Configuration Database version. To upgrade the BlackBerry Configuration Database, you can use the setup application to run the database upgrade scripts during the installation of the BlackBerry Administration Service or the installation upgrade of a BlackBerry Enterprise Server instance. If you do not want to use the setup application, you can run the database upgrade scripts on the database server to upgrade the BlackBerry Configuration Database. If you run the database upgrade scripts on the database server, you cannot manage the BlackBerry Enterprise Server until you install the BlackBerry Administration Service and a BlackBerry Enterprise Server instance.

When you upgrade to the latest BlackBerry Configuration Database version, the upgrade process deletes the role and the administration accounts. After you complete the BlackBerry Enterprise Server upgrade process, you must add the roles and administration accounts to the BlackBerry Configuration Database using the BlackBerry Administration Service.

After you upgrade to the latest BlackBerry Configuration Database version, you cannot install earlier versions of BlackBerry Enterprise Server components. The BlackBerry Administration Service cannot manage earlier versions of BlackBerry Enterprise Server components that you install after you upgrade the BlackBerry Configuration Database.

The latest BlackBerry Enterprise Server version supports a BlackBerry Configuration Database that MSDE hosts, but you can upgrade MSDE to a version of Microsoft® SQL Server® that Microsoft supports. After you create a copy of the BlackBerry Configuration Database, you can move the copy to the later version of the Microsoft SQL Server before you upgrade the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to the latest version.

BlackBerry® Enterprise Server for IBM® Lotus® Domino® version 5.0 does not support the IBM® DB2® UDB. Support for the IBM DB2 UDB is planned for a future release.
