Delete the data from a device

If the security of a BlackBerry device is compromised (for example, the device is stolen), or you do not want the current user to be able to use the device, you can permanently delete the data from the device and make the device unavailable for use. You can also delete only the organization's data from the device, leaving the user's personal data intact. The organization's data includes email messages, calendar data, organizer data that is associated with the user's work email account, BlackBerry Enterprise Server encryption keys, IT policies, and any applications that were installed on the device using the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
  1. On the computer that hosts the BlackBerry Enterprise Server User Administration Tool, on the taskbar, click Start > All Programs > BlackBerry Enterprise Server Resource Kit > BlackBerry Enterprise Server User Administration Tool Client > BlackBerry Enterprise Server User Administration Tool.
  2. Type besuseradminclient <credentials> -kill_handheld -u <user_name> -b <server_name> .
  3. If you want to delete only the organization's data from the device and leave the user's personal data intact, type -organization_data_only.

Example: Deleting the data from a device and making the device unavailable for use

besuseradminclient -username admin -password password -kill_handheld -u jpalmer@test.rim.net -b server1

besuseradminclient -username admin -password password -kill_handheld -organization_data_only -u jpalmer@test.rim.net -b server1
