Configure the
BlackBerry MVS
Before you can start using the
BlackBerry Mobile Voice System, you must configure a telephony connector, the
BlackBerry MVS Server, a class of service, and a template. You must plan the template
carefully. The
BlackBerry MVS does not apply future template
changes to user accounts that already have a template applied to them. The
configuration wizard is designed to help you configure these features.

Telephony connector settings
A telephony connector identifies the IP address and ports that the BlackBerry Mobile Voice System uses to send and receive SIP messages to and from a node in your telephony infrastructure. A telephony connector definition also includes parameters for call setup and phone number normalization. You configure
telephony connectors through the
MVS
Console.
A telephony connector represents your organization's telephony
infrastructure (for example, a PBX or a gateway) within the
BlackBerry MVS environment. A telephony connector specifies the IP address and ports
that
the BlackBerry MVS uses to connect to your telephony infrastructure for SIP
communications as well as parameters required for call control.
Field
Description
Display Name
This field specifies the display name for the telephony
connector.
Type
This field specifies the type of PBX.
IP Address
This field specifies the IP address of your organization's
PBX.
Host Name
This field specifies the host name or FQDN of the PBX.
The default host name is the same as the IP address.
Line Port
This field specifies the UDP port number that the PBX
listens on for SIP communications that are made on the behalf of a specific
telephone extension within your organization. This is only required with some
PBX types.
This port communicates with the line port that is specified
on the Add MVS Server page.
The default port number is 5060.
Trunk Port
This field specifies the UDP port number that the PBX
listens on for general SIP communications.
This port communicates with the trunk port that is specified
on the Add MVS Server page.
The default port number is 6060.
Registration Timeout
This field specifies how frequently the BlackBerry Mobile Voice System registers the BlackBerry MVS Client with the PBX.
The default registration timeout limit for the
BlackBerry Mobile Voice System is 1200 seconds.
Early Media Negotiation
Early Media Negotiation ensures that Cisco Media Termination Points
(MTP) are able to convert between SIP Key Press Markup Language
(KPML, RFC 4730) and RFC 2833 by using early media negotiation when
a call is first initiated. Early Media Negotiation
ensures that all calls use Session Description Protocol (SDP) early
offer. Otherwise, SDP late offer is applied to all calls. Early
offer may be required to force certain configurations of the Cisco
Unified Communications Manager and MTPs to use DTMF properly.
Caller Identification Number
When PBX-initiated call direction is applied, the node initiates call setup of the media path to the BlackBerry device. The node must send the Caller Identification Number as the calling party number to identify that this is a BlackBerry MVS call.
Obtain this number from your organization's PBX
administrator.
Optional ANI numbers available for identifying BlackBerry MVS calls
This field specifies the optional ANI numbers for your organization's
PBX.
When the MVS Session
Manager starts a call, it sends the ANI number that is associated with the telephony connector as the Caller Identification Number to the PBX. In some cases, the Caller Identification Number is altered. You can specify additional ANI numbers for identifying BlackBerry MVS calls. Part of the BlackBerry MVS provisioning information that the BlackBerry MVS Server sends to the BlackBerry MVS Client includes the optional ANI numbers so that the BlackBerry MVS Client has a record of the numbers that can call. The BlackBerry MVS Client uses a combination of the caller identification number and the numbers in the Optional ANI numbers list to identify BlackBerry MVS calls.
Location
The Location feature provides phone number normalization. The feature translates the globally unique E.164 number starting with a plus sign (+) to a locally significant number by stripping the plus sign (+) and adding International Direct Dial (IDD) or National Direct Dial (NDD) access codes corresponding to the PSTN dial plan for the selected location.
Normalization is applied to the called number of outgoing external calls that start with a plus sign. The 'called number' refers to a called number sent from the MVS Session
Manager to the PBX. 'Outgoing' means from the enterprise to the external network.
Use this feature when your organization's PBX does not support the plus sign or does not add the prefixes automatically.
Settings for voice mail connectors
If your organization uses solicited voice mail notification, you must
configure a voice mail connector so that your organization's users can receive
MWIs on their
BlackBerry devices. Your
organization's
BlackBerry Mobile Voice System
users require a user ID and password to access their voice mail. If your
organization uses unsolicited voice mail notifications, do not
configure a voice mail connector. If you turn on MWI, when a caller leaves a
voice mail message for a user, an MWI displays on the user's device.
You use the settings for voice mail connectors to associate the
BlackBerry MVS with a voice mail system. To
configure the settings, in the
MVS
Console, in the left pane, click
Voice Mail Connectors > Manage.

Description
Class of Service Name
This field specifies the name of the class of service.
BlackBerry MVS Call Features
These options specify the user features and device features
that are in the class of service.
BlackBerry MVS Only Calling
This field allows you to restrict your organization's users so that they can use only the
BlackBerry Mobile Voice System line and not the phone
number that is provided by the wireless service provider.
If you restrict calling using BlackBerry MVS Only Calling, optionally you can turn off the feature based on call direction in combination with roaming. For example, you can turn off BlackBerry MVS Only Calling for incoming calls when a user is roaming.
If you have configured your organization's users for BlackBerry MVS Only Calling, you must also type a phone number in the No Data Coverage Number field on the BlackBerry MVS Server page in the MVS
Console. During times of network congestion, if an outgoing call takes too long to initiate, the BlackBerry device will use the no data coverage number to initiate the call. The no data coverage number must be unique and dedicated to the BlackBerry MVS. The no data coverage number must also be different than the number that you use for the Telephony Connector DID/DDI Number and the number that you use for the PBX Initiated Calling Caller Identification Number.
After placing an Emergency Call, allow incoming calls for a duration of (in minutes)
When you configure your organization’s users for BlackBerry MVS Only Calling, you must also configure a length of time that inbound calls are permitted on the mobile line so that emergency services personnel can contact a user who makes an emergency call. You can permit inbound calls on the mobile line from 0 to 2880 minutes.
Validate Caller Identification for PBX-Initiated Calls
During normal call setup some wireless networks might alter the caller identification number. If the BlackBerry MVS Client does not recognize the number the BlackBerry MVS Client rejects the call. To avoid this, you can permit the BlackBerry MVS Client to ignore the number. When you do this, the BlackBerry MVS Client accepts the call.
Even if you have not enabled this feature, when the BlackBerry MVS Client detects that the user is roaming, and the user receives a call that has an altered caller identification number, the BlackBerry MVS Client will still accept the call.
