Prerequisites: Installing the BlackBerry MVS

On your organization's PBX or gateway, perform the following actions:

  • Verify that the PBX or gateway and the computer that you want to install the BlackBerry Mobile Voice System software on can communicate.
  • Verify that you configured a SIP trunk that the BlackBerry MVS uses to send outgoing call requests to the PBX or gateway, and that the PBX or gateway can direct these requests to the PSTN gateway. The PBX or gateway also use the SIP trunk to direct BlackBerry device-initiated calls to the BlackBerry MVS.
  • Verify that the PBX or gateway is set to allow more than two simultaneous calls for a user.

Verify that the port numbers listed in the "Port numbers for BlackBerry MVS components" topic are open and available.

Verify the type of Windows domain where you want to install the BlackBerry MVS software. Perform one of the following actions:
  • Verify that the Windows domain user account that you are using to install the BlackBerry MVS software has only the Microsoft SQL Server "db_owner" database role assigned to the BlackBerry Configuration Database.
  • If you are not installing the BlackBerry MVS in the same Windows domain where the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is located, verify that you are using Microsoft SQL Server authentication. Verify that you can route the two domains to each other and that the domains have DNS resolutions that point to each other. The BlackBerry Configuration Database might have been created using the BESAdmin account on the Windows domain that the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is a member of. The BESAdmin account has different administrative privileges than the Windows domain for the BlackBerry MVS. Access to the BlackBerry Configuration Database might be restricted, and require Microsoft SQL Server authentication to open connections.

Verify the type of voice mail server (solicited or unsolicited) that is configured in the PBX. Perform one of the following actions:

  • If your organization uses solicited voice mail, configure a voice mail connector. Each of your organization's BlackBerry MVS users requires a user ID and password to retrieve voice mail messages.
  • If your organization uses unsolicited voice mail, a voice mail connector is not required.

Verify that your organization's voice mail server and the computer that you want to host the BlackBerry MVS can communicate.
