Telephony environment planning checklist
Record the appropriate values for your reference during the planning process.
What model of PBX do you have?
What is the software version of the PBX?
Is the PBX clustered with additional PBXs?
If yes, how many additional PBXs are there, and what model and releases are the PBXs?
Can you provide a diagram of your telephony environment that includes inter-office PBX connection types and PSTN trunking? For example, MPLS 3.0MB circuit with 2 PRIs to the PSTN.
What is the protocol that the PSTN gateways use? H.323, MGCP, SIP, or a mix?
Does the PSTN gateway connect directly to the PSTN trunks or are there other gateways or Session Border Controllers in between?
Is the PSTN gateway at the site where you plan to install the BlackBerry Mobile Voice System configured to communicate using both the G.711 and G.729 codecs?
(For Cisco environments only.) Can your hardware configuration accommodate out of band signaling between the PBX and the PSTN gateway using either MGCP Out Of Band (dtmf-relay codec all mode out-of-band) or a SIP gateway configuration that supports KPML or SIP-Notify?
On the PBX, can you configure a user for each BlackBerry device?
Do you use Call Recording?
Do you use an ACD/Contact Center System?
Do you have any Interactive Voice Response applications such as a Speech Activated Auto-Receptionist?
Are there any other devices that might be in the call path of BlackBerry MVS calls?
Have you assigned DID/DDI numbers to your organization's BlackBerry MVS users?
Do your organization's BlackBerry MVS users receive their inbound calls through their DID/DDI numbers or through a main inbound number that a receptionist or auto-attendant routes?
Does your organization use video phones?
If your organization uses a Cisco Unity or Cisco Unity Connection voice mail server, does communication occur through SIP or SCCP?
Do you use any E.164 formatted numbers in your dial plans? For example, do you use a plus sign (+) in directory numbers?
How many digits are your organization's extension numbers when users are co-located?
What is the range of your organization's extension numbers when users are co-located?
How many digits are your organization's extension numbers when users are not co-located?
What is the range of your organization's extension numbers when users are not co-located?
What numbers do your organization's users dial for North American long distance? For example, 9,1(NPA)NXX-xxxx.
What numbers do your organization's users dial International long distance? For example, 9,011,CC, X digit number.
How many PRIs exist between the PSTN and the voice gateway? What carrier and ISDN Protocol?
Are there any non-PRI (wink start, ground start, 1MB) circuits that are connected from the PBX to the PSTN?
Is the PBX connected to the PSTN with an IP trunk?
Do you currently display individual employee DID/DDI numbers on outbound calls or do you display a main listed number?
If you display a main listed number, does the telecommunications company supply and overwrite this value on the calls or does the PBX supply the value and the telecommunications company passes it on? For the BlackBerry MVS to work correctly the PBX must control the main listed number.
|Can you reserve three DID/DDI numbers for the BlackBerry MVS?
If you plan to have users in more than one geographic location, additional DID/DDI numbers will be required.
Can you configure three test user DID/DDI extension numbers and phones for testing?
