Configuring trusted connections between the file transfer service and the Microsoft SharePoint server

When users of the BlackBerry Client for Microsoft SharePoint download files from or upload files to Microsoft SharePoint websites, the file transfer service connects to the Microsoft SharePoint server. If you want to protect the data that is exchanged by the file transfer service and the Microsoft SharePoint server from potentially malicious users, you can configure the file transfer service to make trusted connections using SSL authentication.

You can use one of the following methods to configure a trusted connection between the file transfer service and the Microsoft SharePoint server:

  • Export the Microsoft SharePoint certificate and import it into the local JRE key store (cacerts) using the Java keytool
  • Export the Microsoft SharePoint certificate and import it into the custom key store of the BlackBerry Social Networking Application Proxy (snapTrustStore.jks) using the BlackBerry Social Networking Application Proxy Administration Service

The file transfer service and the Microsoft SharePoint server use the Microsoft SharePoint certificate to perform an SSL handshake and identify each other as trusted sources that can exchange data. Based on the security standards of your organization's environment, the Microsoft SharePoint certificate can be self-signed or signed by a trusted certificate authority.

If you configure trusted connections between the file transfer service and the Microsoft SharePoint server, you also enable SSL authentication with the report processor server that is managed by Research In Motion. The BlackBerry Social Networking Application Proxy connects to the report processor server to generate reports about the usage of the BlackBerry Client for Microsoft SharePoint in your organization's environment. To support SSL authentication, you must add the certificate for the report processor server to the JRE key store or to the custom key store.
