Configure the IT policy rules for the BlackBerry Client for Microsoft SharePoint

After you install the BlackBerry Social Networking Application Proxy, you must use the BlackBerry Administration Service to configure IT policy rules that control the functionality of the BlackBerry Client for Microsoft SharePoint on BlackBerry devices. You can either change an existing IT policy that is already assigned to user accounts, or you can create an IT policy and assign it to user accounts.

For more information about configuring IT policy rules and assigning IT policies to user accounts, visit www.blackberry.com/go/serverdocs to see the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Administration Guide and the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Policy Reference Guide.

  • If your organization's environment includes BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 SP1 or 5.0 SP2, you must import the IT policy rules for the BlackBerry Client for Microsoft SharePoint.
  • Verify that the administrator account that you use to log in to the BlackBerry Administration Service has the required permissions to configure IT policy rules and assign IT policies to user accounts.
  1. In the BlackBerry Administration Service, on the BlackBerry solution management menu, expand Policy.
  2. Click Manage IT policies.
  3. Click the IT policy that you want to change, or create and click a new IT policy.
  4. Click Edit IT policy.
  5. On the RIM Value-Added Applications tab, in the Application Server Proxy URL for Microsoft SharePoint field, type the proxy URL that you recorded when you installed the BlackBerry Social Networking Application Proxy. The proxy URL uses the following format: https://<SNAP_server_name>:23443/sp-110/.
  6. In the Application Server Proxy File Service URL for Microsoft SharePoint field, type the file service URL that you recorded when you installed the BlackBerry Social Networking Application Proxy. The file service URL uses the following format: https://<SNAP_server_name>:22445/fileservices-110/.
  7. In the Allow Edits to Application Server Proxy URLs for Microsoft SharePoint drop-down list, perform one of the following actions:
    • If you want to permit users to change the proxy URL and the file service URL, click Yes. The application uses the URLs that the user specifies instead of the URLs that you specify using IT policy rules.
    • If you do not want to permit users to change the proxy URL and the file service URL, click No.
  8. In the Initial Microsoft SharePoint Site URL field, type the URL of the Microsoft SharePoint website that you want the application to access the first time a user starts the application. If you change this IT policy rule after a user starts the application for the first time, the user is not directed to the new URL when the user starts the application.
Note: If you do not specify a URL, and you do not set the Allow Edits to Microsoft SharePoint Site URLs rule to Yes, the user cannot start the application.
  9. In the Initial Microsoft SharePoint Site Name field, type the name of the Microsoft SharePoint website that you want the application to access the first time it starts.
  10. In the Allow Edits to Microsoft SharePoint Site URLs drop-down list, perform one of the following actions:
    • If you want to permit users to change the initial Microsoft SharePoint website URL, click Yes. Users can specify the Microsoft SharePoint websites that they want to access.
    • If you do not want to permit users to change the initial Microsoft SharePoint website URL, click No. Users can access only the website that you specified using the Initial Microsoft SharePoint Site URL rule.
Note: If you set this rule to No, and you do not specify a value for the Initial Microsoft SharePoint Site URL, the user cannot start the application.
  11. In the Enable the "Tell A Friend" Feature in BlackBerry Client for Microsoft SharePoint drop-down list, perform one of the following actions:
    • To show this feature in the application, click Yes. This feature permits users to send email messages with a link to the installation website to other users.
    • To hide this feature in the application, click No.
  12. Verify that the Disable RIM Value-Added Applications drop-down list is set to No.
  13. Click Save All.
  • If the application will be used on devices that are running BlackBerry 6 or later, in the Browser policy group, configure the MDS Browser Domains IT policy rule. Specify the domain name of the BlackBerry Social Networking Application Proxy. For example, if the URL for the BlackBerry Social Networking Application Proxy is https://eps56-vmfll.rim.net:22433/spClient, the domain name is rim.net.
  • If necessary, assign the IT policy to user accounts.
