Import IT policy definitions using the BlackBerry Administration Service

If your organization's environment uses BlackBerry® Enterprise Server 5.0 SP1 or 5.0 SP2, you must import and configure IT policy rules for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server using the BlackBerry Administration Service. You do not need to import the IT policy rules file if your organization's environment uses BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 SP3.

Do not change the IT policy rules file. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server might not function properly if you change the file.

  1. Download the MSSharePointPolicyPack.zip file from the ITPolicy folder to a temporary folder on the server that hosts the BlackBerry Administration Service. The default location of the ITPolicy folder is C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\SNAP\SP\ITPolicy.
  2. Unzip the MSSharePointPolicyPack.zip file into the temporary folder.
  3. In the BlackBerry Administration Service, on the BlackBerry solution management menu, expand Policy.
  4. Click Manage IT policy rules.
  5. Click Import IT policy definitions.
  6. In the IT policy definition import section, browse to the temporary folder in which you unzipped the MSSharePointPolicyPack.zip file.
  7. Click the MSSharePointPolicyPack.xml file.
  8. Click Save.
After you finish: Configure IT policy rules.

Configure IT policy rules

After you import the IT policy definitions, you must configure IT policy rules using the BlackBerry® Administration Service. For more information about configuring IT policy rules, see the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Administration Guide. For descriptions of the IT policy rules, see the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Policy Reference Guide for BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version 5.0 SP1.

  1. Start the BlackBerry Administration Service.
  2. Configure the following IT policy rules from the RIM Value-Added Applications policy group.
    • Application Server Proxy URL for Microsoft SharePoint: Specify the Proxy URL for Microsoft SharePoint that you recorded when you installed the BlackBerry® Social Networking Application Proxy.
    • Application Server Proxy File Service URL for Microsoft SharePoint: Specify the File Service URL for Microsoft SharePoint that you recorded when you installed the BlackBerry Social Networking Application Proxy.
    • Allow Edits to Application Server Proxy URLs for Microsoft SharePoint: Specify whether a user can change the Application Server Proxy URL for Microsoft SharePoint and the Application Server Proxy File Service URL for Microsoft SharePoint. If you turn off this rule, the URL that you specify in the BlackBerry Administration Service is always in effect. If you turn on this rule, and the user types a URL in the BlackBerry® Client for Microsoft® SharePoint®, the URL that the user specifies in the BlackBerry Client for Microsoft SharePoint is in effect instead of the URL that you specify in the BlackBerry Administration Service.
    • Initial Microsoft SharePoint Site URL: Specify the URL of the Microsoft® SharePoint® site that the BlackBerry Client for Microsoft SharePoint accesses automatically the first time it starts. If you do not specify a URL, and you do not turn on the Allow Edits to Microsoft SharePoint Site URLs rule, the user will not be able to start the BlackBerry Client for Microsoft SharePoint.
    • Initial Microsoft SharePoint Site Name: Specify the name of the Microsoft SharePoint site that the BlackBerry Client for Microsoft SharePoint accesses automatically the first time it starts.
    • Allow Edits to Microsoft SharePoint Site URLs: Specify whether a user can change the URL of the Initial Microsoft SharePoint Site URL. If you turn off this rule, the user can only access the site that you specified for the Initial Microsoft SharePoint Site URL when using the BlackBerry Client for Microsoft SharePoint. If you turn off this rule and you do not specify a value for the Initial Microsoft SharePoint Site URL, the user will not be able to start the BlackBerry Client for Microsoft SharePoint. If you turn on this rule, the user will be able to access the sites that they specify in the BlackBerry Client for Microsoft SharePoint.
    • Enable the "Tell A Friend" Feature in BlackBerry Client for Microsoft SharePoint: Specify whether the "Tell a Friend" feature appears in the BlackBerry Client for Microsoft SharePoint. When you enable this feature, users can send an email message with a download link for the BlackBerry Client for Microsoft SharePoint.
  3. For the Disable RIM Value-Added Applications IT policy rule, set the value to No.
  4. If users will be running the BlackBerry® Client for Microsoft® SharePoint® on BlackBerry devices with BlackBerry® Device Software version 6.0 and later, you must configure the MDS Browser Domains IT policy rule from the Browser policy group. Specify the domain name for the BlackBerry Social Networking Application Proxy that users download the BlackBerry Client for Microsoft SharePoint from. For example, if the URL is https://eps56-vmfll.rim.net:22433/spClient for the BlackBerry Social Networking Application Proxy that users download the BlackBerry Client for Microsoft SharePoint from, the domain name is rim.net.
