Architecture: BlackBerry Web Desktop Manager

The BlackBerry® Web Desktop Manager consists of server-side services that are installed with the BlackBerry Administration Service and Microsoft® ActiveX® controls that are installed on the browser of the BlackBerry device user. HTTPS authentication secures the connection between the server and the browser.

Component Description

BlackBerry Administration Service

The BlackBerry Administration Service is a web application that is a required component of the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server. Administrators use the BlackBerry Administration Service to manage user accounts; assign user groups, administrator roles, software configurations, and IT policies to user accounts; and manage servers and components in a BlackBerry Domain.

BlackBerry Enterprise Server

The BlackBerry Enterprise Server encrypts and compresses data that BlackBerry devices receive, and decompresses and decrypts data that BlackBerry devices send.

BlackBerry Configuration Database

The BlackBerry Configuration Database is a relational database that contains configuration information, such as BlackBerry Enterprise Server connection details and user information.

The messaging server stores the email accounts of the BlackBerry device users.

The BlackBerry Web Desktop Manager browser application is the Microsoft ActiveX controls that a user installs in a browser to manage the BlackBerry device.
